Dry eye is a particularly difficult disease to manage. Patients often present with significant symptoms that do not correlate with signs of dry eye and/or meibomian gland disease. This lecture will describe, in case-based style, how conditions outside of the ocular surface can influence a patient’s dry eye experience and how optometrists should consider a patients entire systemic health to best manage and alleviate their symptoms.
The goals of this course are to:
- Examine case studies associated with dry eye and/or meibomian gland disease.

Be familiar with conditions outside the ocular surface that may be associated with a patient's dry eye experience.

Understand how to identify symptoms and examine a patient's systemic health to best manage and alleviate their symptoms.
